Murielle Borst Tarrant (Artistic Associate)
Murielle Borst Tarrant has a Bachelor of a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre and Dance from L.I.U. and interned with Spiderwoman Theater in the Power Pipes tour. She has also studied at Uta Hagen’s HB studios. As an actress she has performed at New York Theatre Workshop, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Soho Repertory Theater, Vineyard Theatre, The Dartmouth Stage, Southampton Stage, Nada, The Public Theater, The 43rd Street Theater, Theater for the New City. In 2001, her one woman show More than Feathers and Beads was nominated for a Rockefeller grant and was selected from the United States to participate in the Global Indigenous Theater Festival, produced at the Sydney Opera House. Other venues: The New World Theater, The Public Theater, La Mama, The Riverside Church, Bard College, Downstairs Cabaret Theater and The National Women’s Theatre Festival at the Painted Bride. She has collaborated with I Giullari di Piazza, Southern Italian Folk Music, Ritual Dance Troup as a writer, Dramaturge and Performer, interpreting traditional Italian myths into English, as well creating new creations myths for the stage using traditional methods of storytelling.
She is currently Artistic Director of The SilverCloud Singers and Dancers. She directed Red Mother at La MaMa E.T.C in May 2010. She is co-writer of a new play, Oops, Bloody, Bloody, Oops presented as a staged reading, also at La MaMa E.T.C., this past March.
She has completed six books for her fantasy series, The Star Song Carriers and is working on the seventh. She won a Native Heart Award from the Native American Music Awards for her spoken verse Tears. Her play More than Feathers and Beads has been published in Staging Coyote’s Dream. Her analysis of the Spiderwoman method, The Spiderwoman Legacy has been published by Miami University Press. She is Editor-in-Chief of EastCoastNative.com, an electronic magazine that addresses the political, artistic and social issues of Native people in urban areas and along the East Coast into Canada.
